Little Dutchies krul

The Basecamp

Equip your child with the essential Dutch vocabulary needed to step into the classroom with confidence. This expedition focuses on the core words used in daily school life, ensuring your child feels ready and “at home” from day one.

Little Dutchies

For whom:

Early explorers (ages 3–4) or those brand new to the Netherlands

Little Dutchies

The focus:

Nouns and articles used in a school environment

Little Dutchies

The goal:

At the end of The Basecamp expedition your child will know at least 25 of the most important words used in a Dutch Classroom. Having these specific words gives your child the immediate tools to confidently ask for help, express what they want and firmly advocate their own boundaries on the playground.

The Bridge Builder

Now that the foundation is set, we build bridges! We teach your child how to connect nouns with adjectives and verbs to unlock real social confidence—giving them the interactive tools to speak to other children on the playground and make friends.

Little Dutchies

For whom:

Explorers with basic Dutch vocabulary who lack the confidence to speak

Little Dutchies

The focus:

Adjectives, verbs and sentence structure

Little Dutchies

The goal:

Through active speaking practice your child will learn to structure Dutch sentences and master at least 25 new words. Rather then just sitting on the sidelines, they will have tools to initiate play, join group games and confidently express their feelings to peers.

Unlocking the Letter-Chest

The Dutch language has unique sounds (like ui, sch, and g). In this expedition we prepare your child for reading and writing in Dutch so that when they see words on a page, they aren’t a mystery—they’re a discovery.

Little Dutchies

For whom:

Explorers (ages 5-7) or those learning how to read and write at school

Little Dutchies

The focus:

Dutch letters and their sounds

Little Dutchies

The goal:

At the end of The Unlocking the Letter-Chest expedition your child will know at least 8 new letters and their sounds both passively and actively.

The Number Navigator

Many expat children struggle to show their maths knowledge and quickly get lost in the verhaaltjessommen “story sums” of Dutch workbooks. During the Number Navigator expedition, your child learns the specific maths vocabulary for their specific year group, ensuring their academic talent doesn’t get lost in translation.

Little Dutchies

For whom:

Explorers of every age group as this package is tailored for each new school year

Little Dutchies

The focus:

Maths vocabulary

Little Dutchies

The goal:

At the end of The Number Navigator expedition your child will know the key mathematical terminology needed for their existing school year.

The Summer Trail (Offered July–August)

To keep up their new language level over the holidays, we head out on the Summer Trail. It’s a lighter, high-energy refresher designed to make sure they start the new school year feeling confident and ready.

Little Dutchies

Little Dutchies

Solidifying the Dutch learnt and expanding vocabulary

How we work

Number 1

We

We start with a Virtual Coffee to discuss your child’s personality and goals, and your preferred level of support. We then pair your child with the perfect certified teacher to ensure a natural, supportive match.

Number 2

The Expedition

Over eight focused Playdate Sessions we use the “universal language of play” to build vocabulary and sentence structure. Your child shifts from passive listening to active, confident Dutch participation.

Number 3

The Mid-Way Check-In*

We provide a Progress Report to tune our focus. If your child excels or needs extra support, we pivot our play-method to ensure they reach their goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the one-on-one playdates take place?

We believe children learn best where they feel safest. Our Guided Playdates take place in the comfort of your home. This allows your child to enjoy their adventure using their own toys and familiar surroundings.

Note: Our Guides currently travel through Amsterdam, Amstelveen, and Diemen. Extra travel fees may apply for adventures outside these areas.

How is the one-hour session structured?

Every great adventure requires a calm start and a clear map. We divide our 60-minute journey into three stages:

  • The Warm-up (5–10 Mins): We create a safe space for your child to get comfortable with their Adventure Guide. This is also the perfect time for parents to ask questions about Dutch culture or the “landscape” of moving to the Netherlands.
  • The Adventure (45 Mins): Pure, high-energy language immersion. Through the universal language of play, your child actively practices Dutch in a low-pressure environment.
  • The Debrief (5–10 Mins): We wrap up and inform you on which milestones were reached during the playdate.
Do I need to provide any materials?

Not at all! Our Guides bring all the necessary Adventure Gear—including toys, word cards and books. We even provide a dual-language book in our Starter package and Full Expedition package, that acts as a bridge between your child’s native tongue and their new Dutch vocabulary.

How do you work with my child's school?

We don’t explore in a vacuum. Especially in our Full Expedition package we provide a formal advice report and a 1-on-1 transition consultation. Our goal is to ensure the Dutch your child learns with us translates directly to confidence in the classroom and on the playground.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. At Little Dutchies we believe in fixed-price, goal-oriented packages. You know exactly what you are paying upfront for the entire adventure, including all materials and evaluations.

What if we need to reschedule?

We understand that family life can be unpredictable! We ask for 24 hours’ notice to reschedule, so our Guides can adjust their route.

How often should we schedule our sessions?

To build real momentum we recommend one to two sessions per week. Consistency is the “secret sauce” that helps a child move from passive listening to active speaking. While some families prefer an “Intensive Expedition” (twice a week), a weekly rhythm allows your child to process new vocabulary without feeling overwhelmed.

What if I have more than one child?

We believe in the power of undivided attention. However, we have flexible options for families with multiple explorers:

  • Back-to-Back Sessions: We can schedule two or more separate 1-on-1 sessions on the same day.
  • Sibling Adventure Rates: We offer a 20% discount on the second and 30% discount on the third package when booked for back-to-back sessions on the same day.
Do I need to be present during the sessions?

We want you to feel like a part of the journey without having to do the heavy lifting! Here is how we handle your presence during the sessions:

  • The Warm up (First 10 mins): We ask that you are present at the start of each session. This is the time when we connect with you, answer your questions about Dutch culture, and help your child transition smoothly into the session.
  • The Playdate (Core 45 mins): For the main part of the session you are free to step away. In fact, we often find that children are more daring with their new language skills when they aren’t looking to their parents for translation. You are welcome to stay in the house and relax, but we encourage a “one-on-one” environment between the child and their Guide to build true confidence.
  • The Debrief (Final 5 mins): We wrap up and inform you on which milestones were reached during the playdate.

In short: You don’t need to sit with us, but we do require a responsible adult to be at home for the duration of the playdate for safety and the start/end consultations.
